Top 5 Energy Boosters

Nov 21

Top 5 Energy Boosters   With so many ads about which super foods are best, it can be confusing to decipher what’s a scam and what’s the truth. That’s why I compiled a list of the top five energy boosting foods that will give you true, lasting energy to keep you hopping all day! Oatmeal   Oats contain the energizing and stress-lowering B vitamin family, which helps transform carbs into usable energy. Oats are also low on the glycemic index because they have a lot of fiber. That means that your body gets a steady stream of energy, as opposed to a short-term spike, because the carbohydrates gradually flow into your bloodstream.   The key here is to look for high-fiber oatmeal, like oat bran. For the best nutrition kick, avoid instant oatmeal and stick with more natural varieties, then add your own sweetness.   Lentils   Beans are a great source of fiber, which translates to a slow release of glucose, as well as B vitamins, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, calcium and copper. Lentils provide both carbohydrates and protein, making them a great addition to any meal. Lentils help reduce your cholesterol and blood pressure, and they’re low in fat and calories to boot.   Bananas   Bananas provide a lot of potassium, an electrolyte that helps maintain normal nerve and muscle function. Unlike some nutrients, the body doesn’t store potassium for long periods of time. This means that your potassium level can drop during times of stress or during strenuous exercise when the nutrient is lost through excessive sweating. The sugar in bananas is an easily digested form of carbohydrate. Other fruits such as apples, grapes, peaches and pineapples also make great energizing and refreshing snacks. We all know we need to be eating more fruits in our diet!   Chocolate   Studies show that chocolate can elevate your energy levels by way of certain bioactive compounds such as tyramine and phenylethylamine. Chocolate has also been claimed to improve anemia, awaken the appetite, aid in digestion, and improve longevity. Chocolate contains sugar and caffeine along with fat and calories so consume in moderation. When possible, opt for dark chocolate or raw cacao for the highest source of...

How Staying Healthy and Stress Free Can Boost Your Fertility

Nov 14

If you’re like most people, you may not realize the plethora of adverse affects that stress can have on your body. When stress goes unchecked, there are many health problems that can occur. Then, worrying about your health causes more stress, and a vicious cycle begins.   This is often the case when it comes to women and their fertility. Infertility is very common and can strike anyone at varying degrees. When a woman decides to have a baby, the desire can be very strong and any kink in the road can seem like a major setback, causing even more stress.   The best you can do for yourself is to step back and remain as stress free as possible, because stress and health play major roles in fertility.   Stress and Fertility   When there’s too much stress in your life, it can affect fertility in harmful ways. This goes for both men and women. Stress affects your hormones and, when your hormones are out of whack, it can disrupt the natural flow of life.   Some say that stress affects fertility because of a natural block against conceiving during an inappropriate time. This just means that if you’re dealing with too much stress, your body might be telling you that it’s not the right time to have a baby.   If you use regular relaxation techniques to relieve your stress, you can improve your chances. You must maintain your relaxation routine though, because if you only remain stress free for a short while, your body will eventually return to its stressed state.   Too much stress can interfere with a woman’s monthly cycle. Stress can delay ovulation even if ovulation is already approaching. Your body may sense the stress and then stop the process, only to “try again” a few days later. In some instances, you may not ovulate during a cycle at all.   Irregular cycles are common, but if you used to be regular and are finding that you’re now irregular, it could be because of stress. Your doctor can help determine if the cause is stress or an underlying physical issue.   Men also need to pay close attention to their stress levels. Too...

5 Simple Exercises You Can Do Anywhere   With your hectic daily routine – getting ready for work, getting the kids ready for school, making sure your socks aren’t floating in the dog’s water bowl, a busy day at work, coming home and fixing dinner, cleaning up the house and getting everyone, including yourself, to sleep – exercise is usually the last thing on your mind!   Stress levels and obesity are at an all time high and health concerns are making themselves a priority in many people’s lives.   However, exercise is the one thing that can energize you to handle such a busy lifestyle with flying colors! Exercising reduces stress, helps you sleep better, and keeps health concerns at bay, while also boosting your self-confidence.   No More Excuses Allowed   It’s a good thing the human body is made the way it is, because there are many exercises you can do anywhere, at any time. All you need are a couple of makeshift weights you can find around the house and the physical weight of your body.   When exercising, remember to get a good warm-up and finish off with a slow cool-down. This is important to prevent injury and is easy to accomplish no matter where you are. Walking works well for both your warm-up and cool-down routine.   Here are 5 simple exercises you can do anywhere:   Tricep Dips. Sit on the edge of a chair or bench with your hands next to your thighs. Lift your body out just in front of the chair, with your feet flat on the floor and your knees bent. Lower yourself down so your elbows bend no more than 90 degrees and push yourself back up. Start off with a few small sets and build up from there. Straightening your legs increases the workout. Avoid this exercise if you have wrist or shoulder problems.        2.  Pushups. Everyone knows the standard pushup position, so let’s try some things to           change it up a bit. You can do pushups with your hands wider than shoulder width to get more of a shoulder and chest workout. If you bring your...

Monsanto strikes again! Spends millions to keep you in the dark about your food.

Nov 08

In a campaign style effort this past Tuesday, Monsanto led the way among other bio-tech giants and food companies to spend a whopping $22 million to defeat Initiative 522 to implement GMO labeling in Washington state this Tuesday.  While $44 million was required to get the vote to just over 50% in California last November, it required half that amount to reach the tipping point to rob citizens of their rights to know what’s in their food in Washington.  I’m sure that had something to do with Washington having a smaller population than California. Check out this interesting statistic.  Of the $22 million raised to defeat GMO labeling in Washington, only $550 or .000025% was from individuals living within the state!  This is in direct contrast to 30% of the money raised to implement GMO labeling coming directly from Washington residents.  What does that tell us?  Individuals want to know what’s in their food, and corporations do not!  It’s as simple as that. This is plain and simple campaign style coordinated attack to defeat our right to know what we’re eating every time the issue is raised by a state.  Just enough is spent to tip the scales at just over 50% to keep us in the dark, and then the spending stops.  Who are some of the other contributors to this effort besides Monsanto?  Here’s a good image to give you an idea: While these companies won another battle which continues to have grave consequences for our health, we will still win the war.  How?  Through sharing information like this, and voting with our wallets.  None of the products from the companies that you see above enter our home, and there’s a growing number of families that feel the same way and avoid them as well.  These companies don’t pay attention to what you want, they pay attention to what you buy!  If you stop buying their products, they’ll pay attention and make changes to their ingredients, just like they did in Europe. A perfect example of this was Kraft FINALLY agreeing to remove the harmful dye Yellow 5 from its macaroni and cheese.  These dyes are carcinogenic, cause hyperactivity, and major brain dysfunction in the kids that couldn’t get enough of it.  After enough mothers...
